Wild swimming in Surrey

Based in or around Surrey, and always wanted to try open water swimming? We’re the place for you! Located in the heart of Godstone, we’re located conveniently near Reigate, and around an hour away from central London for those looking to escape busy city life.

But why try wild swimming? Many people are turning to outdoor swimming as their chosen form of exercise due to the numerous mental and physical health benefits.

Reduce stress with wild swimming

First up, stress. Unfortunately, in the modern day, more and more of us are struggling with stress. Whether it’s related to work, school, relationships or home life, stress is impacting many individuals’ mental health.

If you’re looking for a natural way to combat feelings of worry and anxiety, wild swimming can help to reduce stress. One of the key factors that make wild swimming an effective stress-reduction technique is cold water immersion. When our bodies are exposed to cold water, it triggers a physiological response that releases endorphins, the feel-good hormones. This natural high helps alleviate stress and promotes a sense of calm and relaxation.

Cold water swimming has become increasingly popular in recent years as it aligns with the teachings of Wim Hof, a motivational speaker and extreme athlete who praises the health benefits of cold water immersion for the body, mood and mind.

The Wim Hof Method suggests that by immersing ourselves in cold water, we tap into our bodies’ innate ability to adapt and overcome challenges. This process not only strengthens the immune system but also enhances resilience against stressors. As you brave the icy waters during wild swimming, you are essentially training your mind and body to become more resilient in the face of stress. Want to learn more about this practice? We also offer Wim Hof Fundamentals Courses

Additionally, the serene and untouched beauty of nature that surrounds you during wild swimming adds another layer of stress relief. Being in nature has been proven to have a calming effect on the mind, reducing anxiety and promoting a sense of tranquillity. The combination of the cool water, fresh air, and picturesque surroundings of the Surrey countryside creates a perfect recipe for stress reduction.

Can wild swimming increase energy levels?

Wondering if wild swimming can help boost energy? The answer is yes! When we immerse ourselves in natural bodies of water, our bodies react by releasing endorphins, the feel-good hormones that boost our mood and energy levels.

The combination of the cold water and the adrenaline rush of exercising in nature can leave us feeling revitalised and energised.

Get fit wild swimming

As well as boasting mental health benefits, wild swimming is also a great way to improve your fitness levels and get into shape.

Unlike swimming in an indoor pool, wild swimming allows you to connect with nature whilst reaping the benefits of a full-body workout. The cool, refreshing waters of our Surrey swimming lake not only provide a welcome relief from the summer heat

but also works wonders for your cardiovascular health. As you swim against the currents and navigate through the open water, your muscles are engaged in a way that is both challenging and exhilarating. Whether you're exploring a hidden lake or diving into the ocean, wild swimming offers a unique and invigorating workout experience.

One of the greatest advantages of wild swimming is its low-impact nature. Unlike high-impact exercises such as running or weightlifting, wild swimming puts minimal stress on your joints and muscles. This makes it an ideal option for individuals of all ages and fitness levels, including those recovering from injuries or looking for a gentle form of exercise. The buoyancy of the water also helps to support your body weight, reducing strain on your bones and allowing you to move with ease.

Reduce aches and pains

For those who regularly deal with muscle aches and pains, the act of open water swimming itself will actively reduce troublesome pains, as well as reduce the risk of further injury through its low-impact nature.

When we immerse ourselves in cold water, this stimulates our body’s natural healing processes. The cold water immersion helps to reduce inflammation and swelling, which in turn eases muscle soreness.

If you want to further maximise the benefits of your wild swim at Divers Cove, why not consider adding a sauna session to further aid muscle recovery? Our handcrafted wooden sauna pods are ideal for unwinding whilst relieving aches and pains, as the heat from the sauna helps to increase blood flow, promoting faster muscle repair and reducing stiffness.
