Whether you’re new to wild swimming, building your confidence in the open-water environment, looking for stroke development and being more efficient in the water, open-water skills or training for an event – we have sessions that can help you.
Introduction to Open Water Swimming
These sessions are for those new to the open water and will take you through swim preparation, kit list, the open water environment, cold-water shock and swimming in cold water, the importance of risk assessing and emergency planning, how to warm up safely and of course opening your eyes to the delights of swimming in the open air without the bounds of lane ropes! You do not need to be able to front crawl for this session – this is open to all swimmers – head-up breaststrokers, as well as, competitive swimmers – and everyone in between. It is highly recommended if you are new to open water as the experience of swimming outdoors is very different to that of the indoor pool. The session will include a land-based discussion, as well as an accompanied swim in the lake.
Open Water Confidence Builder
These sessions are for those people who have taken an introductory course but would still appreciate support in the water and an accompanied swim with a qualified instructor. You may like to brush up on your knowledge ahead of the open water season and boost your confidence in the open water environment and your swimming skills. The session will include a land-based discussion, as well as an accompanied swim in the lake. Pick up some technique pointers whilst in the water too, ask any questions you have and enjoy being in the lake with the safety and support of a swim teacher.
Technique Masterclass
These sessions are for swimmers looking to hone their swimming technique. Perhaps you love swimming but find it exhausting, maybe you struggle with ‘breathing’ and you could be concerned about injury, or you could also be looking to drill down on your stroke to perform at your best for a swim event. The session will include a brief land-based discussion, swim assessment and technique analysis, as well as an accompanied swim with exercises and drills. You may even get homework!
Breaststroke to Front Crawl
These sessions are for you if you are looking to learn how to front crawl in the open water. We’ll go at your own pace to help you put your face in the water, learn aquatic breathing (exhaling in the water – not becoming a merperson!), how to swim with the correct body position, the arm movement and how to travel in the water with a fabulous front crawl. The session will include a brief land-based discussion, swim assessment and accompanied swim with exercises and drills to teach you front crawl. As for all sessions, this isn’t for non-swimmers, you must be able to swim 450m comfortably.
